A football club based in Wandsworth, South London, has raised an incredible £13,000 for Disability Sports Coach following a successful black-tie event.
Representatives from Broomwood FC recently visited our Community Club in Sutton to present a cheque and see first-hand the impact inclusive sport can have on disabled people in the local community.
The funding will help Disability Sports Coach continue to deliver accessible sport and physical activity sessions across London, creating opportunities for disabled people to be active, socialise, improve confidence, and feel part of a welcoming community.
“Disabled people are still far less likely to have access to sport and physical activity in their local community, so support like this genuinely makes a difference,” said Amardeep Gill, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Disability Sports Coach.
“This incredible fundraising effort will help us create more inclusive opportunities where disabled people can be active, socialise, build confidence and feel part of something. We’re hugely grateful to everyone at Broomwood FC for getting behind our work.”
Three football coaches from Broomwood FC – James, Stuart and Matteo – visited Club Sutton with the good news, giving club representatives the chance to meet participants, speak with coaches and experience inclusive sport first-hand.
“For the past few years, I’ve seen first-hand the impact Disability Sports Coach has on disabled people and their families by volunteering at their Community Club in Wandsworth. It’s much more than a sports session – it’s a place where people build confidence, friendships and feel part of a community. I’m a football coach with Broomwood FC, so when the chance came up to nominate Disability Sports Coach as a charity partner, it was a no-brainer. It’s been brilliant to see Broomwood get behind the charity, and I know this support will make a real difference to both charities.”
Ben Sanderson, Chairman of Broomwood FC, said, “We’re proud to support Disability Sports Coach and the work they do to make sport accessible to everyone. The Green and Black Ball was a real team effort, and we’re thrilled to see the impact the money raised will have for disabled people in the local area.”
