Trustee Sam Vardy goes the distance with ultra-marathon challenge

200km. 30 hours. One incredible effort.

Disability Sports Coach Trustee, Sam Vardy, has now completed his ultramarathon challenge, running for 30 hours and covering 200km before an ankle injury brought his challenge to a close.

He has already raised £4,549, rising to over £5,500 with Gift Aid, with match funding likely to take the total even higher!

Sam said, “After completing 30 hours and 200km of running, an ankle injury finally takes me out. I’m looking forward to taking my trainers off and not putting them on for a while!”

Running long distances is nothing new for Sam Vardy. But his latest ultra-marathon challenge was about more than miles.

Sam, who serves as DSC’s Vice Chair, once again pushed himself to the limit to raise funds and awareness for inclusive sport. A keen runner, Sam believes in the power of sport to improve health, wellbeing and social connection.

In previous challenges, Sam has shown just how far that belief can take him. He famously completed a 100-mile ultra-marathon across the South Downs, finishing in just over 21 hours and raising funds to support DSC’s work creating inclusive opportunities for disabled people.

This time, Sam took on a backyard ultramarathon, a 6.7km loop on the hour, every hour. Sam was hoping to run for 24 hours – that’s over 100 miles. It’s fair to say he smashed it!

For Sam, the motivation is simple. Sport has shaped many of his happiest memories and strongest friendships, and he believes those benefits should be available to everyone.

Every mile he runs helps our charity continue delivering inclusive sport across London, supporting disabled children and adults to be active, build confidence and feel part of their communities.
