Two students at King’s College London are feeling on top of the world after winning a Strictly Come Dancing competition – and raising over £1,000 for Disability Sports Coach.
Pedro Murciano and his dance partner Eva took to the stage on 31st October in front of 400 people. Competing against 24 other teams, they came out on top – a remarkable achievement considering Pedro had never danced before!
Pedro said, “As someone who’s never danced before, it was terrifying but exciting. We had 24 societies taking part against each other, with a member of the dance society paired with each team. My teammate was Eva, and I represented the Swimming and Waterpolo society.
We rehearsed like we were going to dance on national television! I remember having dance rehearsals almost every day for a month, with some even ending at 11pm. Once on stage, to hear 400 people cheering us on and literally screaming to our Latin dance while we were dressed as Prince Charming and Snow White was one of the best highlights of my year.
When we ended and received 10/10/10/9 from the judges, we knew what that meant. The night ended with a dance-off between the three teams tied – and we won!
I was asked who my society was planning to donate the money raised to. I explained to the crowd the values of what Disability Sports Coach does in London. Being able to support such meaningful community work has been such a rewarding experience.”
Congratulations Pedro and Eve – and a huge thanks to all at King’s College for helping us deliver more inclusive sport sessions across London.
