Inclusive Sport Ideas

An introduction to ideas of how to make your sports sessions inclusive with ideas for adapted activities.

ACTIVITY 1: CATCHING & THROWING

Equipment: Different size balls

Aim: Improve dexterity by throwing & catching ball

Instructions:

  1. Participant sits opposite coach
  2. Adjust size of ball to suit participant
  3. Throw the ball back and forth to participant, using verbal/non-verbal cues as necessary

ACTIVITY 2: KICKING A BALL

Equipment: Large ball, football, cone markers

Aim: Kicking ball towards goal area (cone markers)

Instructions:

  1. Adjust size of ball to suit participant’s ability
  2. Only use manual guidance if you know the participant well and take care not to move past range of motion

ACTIVITY 3: BOCCIA

Equipment: Boccia set with ramps

Aim: To improve aiming towards a target/target area

Instructions:

  1. Participants to use ramp if needed
  2. Gradually move target further away
