At Disability Sports Coach we believe that no one should ever be left out on the sidelines.
Not just in sport – in life.
That’s why this Christmas we are putting on our biggest sports party ever!
It’s the first Christmas celebration since the Covid-19 pandemic where our members can finally meet in person again to play the sports they love – and we can’t wait!
At Christmas many disabled people face increased loneliness because they lack social networks and connections to their community.
As the festive lights are switched on, doors to colleges and social clubs are shut, creating further isolation.
That’s when we step up to make sure that everyone can experience the joy of getting together and having fun at Christmas.
Our campaign coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, (December 3) which shines a spotlight on the issues faced.
Sport England’s Active Lives Survey found a 2.1% decrease in activity levels among people with a disability since the COVID-19 pandemic. This compares with a 1.4% drop among people without a disability for whom activity levels were not recovering as quickly.
The national disability charity Sense also reports that almost two-thirds of disabled people are chronically lonely, rising to 70% of young people in the same group.
Put simply loneliness is a health emergency for people with a disability.
Disability Sports Coach is staging its annual festive bash to ensure that everyone is #IncludedAtChristmas.
Packed full of favourite sporting activities from mini tennis, polybat, football, basketball and dance, the celebration will include Christmas games, goodies and certificates.
Our Christmas Club takes place on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 11am-2pm at The Castle Leisure Centre, Elephant and Castle, 2 St Gabriel Walk, London SE1 6FG.
People of all ages and abilities are warmly welcomed to our pan-disability, multi-sports celebration, where food, drink and social activities will also be on offer.
