Community Club wins Active Westminster’s Inclusive Award

On Friday 1st December 2017, Club Westminster staff, coaches, volunteers and members attended the Active Westminster awards ceremony after being shortlisted for the Active Inclusive award.

Along with Step Change Studios and Safe Haven Basketball Club, we were shortlisted for the Active Inclusive award which “recognises individuals, clubs or facilities that create and deliver inclusive activities for deaf and disabled people”. Club Westminster is one of 11 DSC Community Clubs in London that delivers weekly multi-sports sessions for anyone with a disability. Every club is fully inclusive with specially trained coaches and volunteers to cater for a wide range of needs. Lead coach Theo and volunteer Joel work hard each week to ensure every member enjoys playing sport and learning new skills.

Theo and Joel attended the awards evening along with Club Development Officer Lauren, Business Development Manager Louis, CEO Peter, Club Westminster members Shannon and Josh and even one of the parents Marie came along too! Nerves were high as we had some tough competition but full of excitement when we received the award.

Congratulations to Step Change Studies and Safe Haven Basketball for being great nominees and delivering fantastic inclusive projects in Westminster. You might have seen both organisations within the Community Club project with Step Change Studios delivering inclusive dance taster sessions at our clubs and Safe Haven Basketball delivered at both the Easter Sports Day and Summer Festival 2017.

Big thank you to Active Westminster for their continued support to Community Club Westminster and we look forward to seeing what the next year brings!
