Community Clubs tackle inactivity and deliver wider social benefits

Sport England invest £250m targeting inactive including disabled people

Over the last two years our Community Club programme has made disabled Londoners more physically active, as well as improving their mental wellbeing.

From out latest Participant Feedback undertaken in March 2016 (below), the wider benefits are clear, with examples such as 80% of participants claiming that they feel happy and 21% said they have better social skills since attending their local Community Club.

In response to our latest feedback and Sport England’s new strategy, Peter Ackred, Disability Sports Coach CEO said:

“We have been working hard towards increasing the quality of opportunities for disabled people and working with Sport England and local partners has been the integral to the success of the programme. Following Sport England’s new strategy released yesterday, it’s great to see we are both striving to reach the the 5 core societal outcomes and the stats below provide very encouraging reading!”
