Ataxia is the name given to a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination, and speech. There are many different types of ataxia that can affect people in different ways.
After watching inspirational speeches by participants, we were asked to provide a 2 hour coaching session for those in attendance. Boccia was the sport of the day for the 20 participants from the 16-30 group.
The session began with Boccia specific coaching and teaching of the rules, followed by a couple of games and the cone challenge. The red team (Team Awesome) initially went ahead after winning in the games. However Team Blue (Incredible Blues) came back to win convincingly in the cone challenge by 180 points to 140 points.
The coaches had a brilliant time and were extremely impressed by the determination and drive by all of the participants. Disability Sports Coach look forward to future involvement with Ataxia UK and the 16-30 group.
