Game, set & match!

Wimbledon fever is here and our members made quite the racquet when we took to Wimbledon Park Tennis Courts with The LTA

On Sunday 7thJuly 2019, 27 Community Club members and their family and friends sprinted down to Wimbledon Park Tennis Courts to take part in ‘Middle Sunday. Opened Up’ tennis event hosted by All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and idVerde.

Everyone took part in lots of tennis activities followed by a huge 10 v 10 match with Team USA and Team Lionesses battling to the win. As you could imagine balls were flying left, right and centre and it wasn’t long until family members became ball boys and ball girls!

The excitement didn’t end there, we had a surprise appearance by Stefan Olsson. Stefan is currently ranked 6th in the world in the singles wheelchair tennis tables. Stefan was also the 2017 and 2018 Wimbledon singles champion. Our members fancied their chances challenging Stefan to match (I’m sure you could imagine the end result!).

Lauren Mawdsley, Club Development Manager said: “As part of the Community Club programme, we try and take our members out of the sports hall and into the community to raise awareness of other activities they can access. This event was a great way to showcase how they can head down to any tennis court and play tennis whenever they want.”

Thank you to everyone involved, we had an ACE day!
