New Record: Attendance figures smashed as disabled people enjoy DSC Summer Festival 2017

Action packed celebration with over 500 disabled people enjoying 21 sports, 5 special guests and 2 performances!

Over 500 disabled people came to the Westway Sports & Fitness Centre on Friday 28th July 2017 to take part in our biggest and best Summer Festival yet! This is our 3rd annual Summer Festival aimed to bring our club members from 11 different boroughs together along with community groups, schools, day centers and new individuals, to inspire all to take part in more sports and activities from across all 33 boroughs of London.

We had 2, very literal, show-stopping performances which was a new addition to the festival this year! The world title holders ParaCheer team performed their award-winning performance and dancing duo Katherine and Sam from Step-Change studios performed their melody of dances. Both performances were truly inspiring for all the Summer Festival goers!

Our special guests Natasha Coates, Blaine Harrision, Susie Rodgers and Kate Grey shared their stories, cheered on our members and took lots of selfies on the day!

Kate Grey, former Paralympic Swimmer said: “The disability sports coach summer festival has just got bigger and better! I feel very proud to support such a successful and impactful event. The vast array of inclusive sports and activities were a great opportunity for people of all abilities to try out or further develop their skills, but most importantly have fun.”

A special thanks must go to all our delivery partners, DSC coaches and volunteers and PCubed volunteers for all their support to make the day possible. They were able to make every sport accessible and cater for every type of disability and ability.

Attendees were also able to find out about all the exciting sporting opportunities our delivery partners are running.

Peter Ackred, DSC CEO: “Our Summer Festival 2017 was the most successful festival to date with more activities and more sports for our members. Though it’s a fantastic fun-filled family day, the event serves as an important way for disabled people to find more opportunities to be active in sport and physical activity with our incredible delivery partners. Our annual celebration is the biggest event of this nature in London, but we will strive to improve it for next year.”
