Regent’s Park festival a celebration of inclusivity

Sport is for everyone – and our Together Celebration at Regent’s Park showed just that!
Disability Sports Coach (DSC) teamed up with the London Inclusion Sports Academy (LISA) to deliver a sports festival brimming with activity.
Visitors took part in a range of sports including football, tennis, athletics, adapted cycling and boccia.
Close to 100 people attended and Hugh Elsegood, DSC’s Head of Service Delivery said that support for the festival was “way beyond expectations”.
The Together Celebration was made possible by the Sport England Together Fund, which allowed DSC to give out grants to 10 smaller inclusive sports organisations.
Hugh Elsegood said: “The festival was a real joy, genuinely inclusive and a great way to break down barriers to sport.
It had a real family feel with lots of siblings turning up. It was great to see disabled and non-disabled young people playing sport side-by-side.
Hugh added: “There are ways to adapt sport and physical activity, such as walking football, using a soft javelin in athletics, or adapting tennis, so that everyone can play.”
Organisations supported by DSC through the Sport England Together Fund are listed below:-
London Sports Inclusion Academy (LISA) (Camden); Highgate Harriers Athletics Club (Camden); Willow Learning for Life (Croydon); Learning Disability Network London (Westminster); Lifelong Family Links (Lambeth); Bexley Mencap (Bexley); Caxton Youth (Westminster); Generate (Wandsworth); Sporting Recovery (Lewisham); Contact a Family (Wandsworth, Lambeth and Lewisham).
