Summer Festival Birthday Wish #5 – Special Guests

For our Summer Festival 2019 countdown, we’re bringing you weekly wishes.

We have 3 fantastic special guests this year and we’ve even roped in our CEO in for an extra surprise…

Grab’em for a selfie and find out about their journey, we have 4 special guests for you to chat to this year.

Martina Barber

Following a premature birth, Martina was born with a learning disability and defeated the doctor’s odds when they gave her 10 months to live. Now at the age of 24, Martina has gone on to become World and two-time European Heptathlon Champion in competitions organised by INAS (The International Federation for athletes with an intellectual disability).

Martina has also been a member of the British Athletics National Para Talent Development Squad, which supports athletes who have strong potential of achieving a place at a Paralympic Games.

Martina will be coming to the festival with her medal so be sure to take a look!

Hassan Khan

Hassan Khan was left blind at the age of three after a genetic illness caused his eyesight to deteriorate slowly. Not letting that stop him achieving his sporting dreams, Hassan is now a key member of England’s visually impaired cricket team.

I’m sure you’ll be able to find Hassan at the VI Cricket sports area inside – why not put his skills to the test!

Deputy Mayor Councillor Walaa Idris

The Deputy Mayor Councillor Walaa Idris is the most local special guest attending our Summer Festival. She has been a Councillor for Brompton and Hans Town Ward since 2018 and is a committee member of the Adult Social Care and Health Select Committee, amongst others.

Peter Ackred

Does that name look familiar? Pete is Disability Sports Coach’s very own CEO! Did you know Pete ranked in the top 20 in the UK (so he has us believe!) back when he was a junior (many many years ago…) in Table Tennis.

For one day only you can put Pete to the test. Between 12 – 1pm you can challenge Pete to a Table Tennis match as see if he lives up to his ranking. All we ask if that you make a small donation to go back into the Community Club programme.

And that’s a wrap, if you haven’t got your ticket don’t worry – you can just turn up.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
