Here at Disability Sports Coach, everything we do has one core goal: to support our disabled community and ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy sport to the fullest.
As a registered charity, one of the key components of our organisation is our Board of Trustees. One key area of expertise that we have been hoping to add to our Board for some time now is the unique knowledge of the parent or carer of one of our community members themselves. These are some of the people we work the most closely with on a day-to-day basis, and they know what our participants want and need better than anyone.
We are therefore delighted to announce that two of the three recent additions to our Board of Trustees are parents of Disability Sports Coach participants – get to know them below!
Karen Sorab is a social entrepreneur with over 20 years senior leadership experience in the charity sector. She is the founder, former CEO and current Chair of BeyondAutism, a UK registered charity, providing education for people with autism and training for those who support them.
Karen is also a parent of a participant and a passionate supporter of Disability Sports Coach. Karen’s daughter Alex is an active member of a Community Club and the online programme. Alex has grown in confidence and independence through her participation in the activities offered by the charity, allowing her to discover different sports and make lots of new friends.
After a career in finance, project and operations management, Meagan now works in the charity sector, supporting the families of children with disabilities with information and advice around all aspects of living with a child with a disability.
Meagan is a keen swimmer and a longstanding supporter of the work of Disability Sports Coach. She believes that the social, emotional and health benefits of sport should be accessible to everyone, regardless of skill or ability. Meagan’s daughter Grace is one of the founding participants of Community Club Wandsworth.
Adrian is a qualified chartered accountant with over a decade experience in external audit, internal audit, risk management and regulatory compliance, specialising within the financial services sector.
Adrian is keen to bring his skills and expertise to Disability Sports Coach from both a governance and coaching perspective, with an Australian flavour including introducing Australian Rules Football to the Disability Sports Coach community.
